So I can buy a Mazda 6.

Kinja'd!!!

I currently work at a Chevrolet dealer. I love it. I work with some amazing folks. I could make some more money (that would be nice) but it’s not really about the money. I can’t very well buy a Mazda 6 when I’m pedaling Chevrolet’s. Full disclosure: I genuinely love the Chevrolet product, but look at that thing.

Also, anyone have experience with the latest Mazda infotainment? Is it good? voice commands work well? Voice pass through to phone? Voice texting?

That’s all for now. Also, I haven’t been on here to post in forever. Thanks for still being the Oppo I know and love.

If you're in a state/province that requires front plates, it spoils the overall look. I hate front plate laws.

The funnest part is that it’s also legitimately my last name. But if you saw my picture you say I was more ready for a side show more than anything. :)

Thankfully, NC does not require front plates. I came from MA about 11 years ago and they did so I dodged a bullet there!

You are thinking to far into it. My salesperson at Mercedes let’s his wife drive the employee leased Merc and he drives, no lie, a kick ass lifted Jeep with an AMAZING exhaust on it. Actually we spent more time talking about his jeep and going offroading then talking about the car I was buying.

I would have had this problem if I still worked at a Ford dealer when the time came to get my wife a new car. She would have been happy with a Focus, but a Fit just works better for our needs.

I Have a 2016 6 and the Infotainment system works pretty well. The Bluetooth hooks up easy and the display is also very easy to understand. The voice command seems to work alright but it does have a few glitches. The only thing I have had problems with is the USB drives, sometimes my ipod will quit and I will have to unplug it and plug it back in. It really isn’t to big of a deal but it can be annoying. I have not used the voice texting feature so I don’t really know how that works. Overall I love my 6 and I have gotten a lot of complements on how it looks.

My wife and I bought a 2016 CX-5 Grand Touring this past Saturday, in that same Reflex Blue. It’s wonderful. Interior, materials, infotainment system (improved for 2016) options, fit and finish, exterior, everything. I wish it had a couple little things, but they’re niggles at best. Oddly enough, the Mazda dealer we bought from shares its lot with a Chevy dealer from the same dealership family (and is right next to my friendly neighborhood CarMax), so I can understand your burden. I couldn’t shill chevies for a living, but I’m happy to extoll the virtues of a Mazda to anyone who will listen.

TL;DR: Buy what you want. They’re not paying you to drive a Chevy, so they can deal with it. Consider applying to a local Mazda dealer, and work your way onto their demo program if hired.

Sweet beans. That’s all very good intel. I figure if it has voice texting at all, it can’t be any worse than the MyLink system in my Cruze. The USB thing wouldn’t be a big deal, my Cruze does similar shenanigans. Thanks!

Yeah, I have no problem with the Chevrolet. Rather, I like their products. Most of them. And they seem to be only getting better and better with each successive generation. I live in a small town so owning something else and working at a rural Chevy dealer just wouldn’t look right. The closest Mazda dealer is 50 miles away. Never making a commute like that again. Glad you like your CX-5! I drove a 2.0 when they first came out! Slow but fun and very good quality even then!

I see what you’re saying but in rural America, it makes a huge difference with the clientele. That said, I won’t be working here forever and when that time comes, I will branch out a bit more. I love the Chevrolet products, but that 6 is just sexy.

Yeah. It sucks a bit but I understand the reasons why I (not necessarily can’t) shouldn’t buy another brand outside of GM if I work for a GM dealer. I like the products very well so I’m good until I CAN make a change. I’m not unhappy with my Cruze (far to the contrary) but I just can’t get the 6 (or most Mazda’s these days) off my radar.

Oh where in NC are you at? I’m in Apex, which is a suburb of Raleigh.

I’ve been in Apex before! I’m an hour east of Charlotte on 74 in Marshville! I’m looking to bring the ‘65 Seagrave to the Charlotte Cars and Coffee on November 7th if you want to make the trek. I’m trying to get enough money to put the fuel in it!

Sadly, I typically have to work on Saturday mornings. And it takes two and a half hours to get there. But I’ll be in Charlotte on Monday for the game.

I have a ‘16 Mazda6 i Touring. The infotainment is hugely upgraded over the 2014-2015 models. Voice command works about 75% of the time for me. Voice texting, I am not sure about since my stupid iPhone won't allow it. Bluetooth for phone calls and streaming music is flawless. Syncs up without fail.

2.5 hours. Ugh. It takes a little over an hour to get to C+C from where I am. Never been though so I want to go.

See, I like the “not much happens here” stuff. If I choose to do something, cool. But I’d prefer it be quiet.

Most people come here for business, honestly. My parents moved here before I was born for business.

I have a buddy of mine that lives up there (Cary) and works for SAS. Apparently they are a big company up there that employs a fair amount of folks.

SAS pretty much owns half of Cary. And yes they employ a whole bunch of people. Apparently, it’s a great company to work for if technology is your thing.

Technology is my thing. Though, I’m likely not nearly on the level of those folks. My buddy, who is incredibly intelligent and driven, works there. He and I have a very similar college education. Hoever, his knowledge is much more plentiful. Also, he’s a piano prodigy. So there’s that too.

The benefits for working at SAS are endless. Free gym, childcare, heavily discounted rates for attendance at their super expensive private school ($22,000 a year, per student), and much more.
